Solar Shades

The hottest group of Shadings on the market today. You have the ability to maintain a view while controlling the heat gain in a window, and minimizing the effects of those nasty UV's.

Fabric Choices

With several manufacturers supplying the raw fabric there are patterns, weaves, and colors to spare. These run the gambit from those designed for institutions to textured natural materials which provides a unique one-of-a-kind light filtering shade.

Design Options

Flat shades on rollers, or Traditional Roman style shades, can be equipped with bead and reel clutch systems or motorized. Choose lengths up to 168" and heights to 144". Can be used with several styles of cassettes or valances, and colors to coordinate with the room setting or fabric covered.

Lift Systems

Depending on the style, from the standard cordlock, to the hand operated clutch system to high or low voltage motorized. With a radio frequency remote you may use a wall switch that does not need to be wired to the shade itself.

Sun Control

This category offers the most varied control of the sun's damaging effect, from reducing glare, reducing heat gain, minimizing the UV exposure for flooring, furniture, and art, all the while allowing you to maintain your view. There are also room-darkening or privacy oriented weaves.
Ralph's notes: This is the most fun category because you can tailor to your specific need. Do you need to control the glare for the TV, or reduce the heat gain from western or southern exposed windows? I can do that, all the while allowing you to see the view to which your windows are oriented. And remote control motorized are the coolest!! Quiet, reliable, and easy to use! Some fabrics are also rated for outdoor use.

Fabric Choices

Choose from durable 3-ply fabrics in a number of different weaves, you can combine colors and openness* to obtain the desired results. Most fabrics are vinyl on either a fiberglass or polyester warp and are treated for antibacterial and anti-fungicidal properties.

*Openness indicates how tightly or loosely woven a particular fabric is. In evaluating "openness" a number such as 3%, 10%, or 20% is used. The percentage indicates the amount of UV's which pass through the particular weave. The smaller the percentage, the tighter the weave.

Design Options

Many exterior shadings are very similar to the interior shades, that is, the same fabrics, the same way to raise and lower. Yet there are a number of different ways to equip the shade for exterior use. Fascias or cassettes may be used to keep the elements off the shade in the winter. There are hold-downs that can be used to keep the bottom rail from being lifted by the winds. A patented ShyZip zippered system is used on larger shades to keep them from flapping. This system can withstand up to 65 mph winds.

Lift Systems

Depending upon the size of shade, it can be manually raised and lowered through use of a beaded chain, or with a detachable crank. Most shades can be motorized using a wireless wall switch or a hand-held remote.

Sun Control

Exterior solar shades are extremely effective for controlling the sun, both for glare and heat gain. Depending on the color of fabric chosen and the openness, you can maintain your view and still reduce the effects of UV's and solar heat gain. Exterior shading can also be used to minimize the glare on larger screen TV's and computer screens.
Ralph's notes: Exterior shadings are effective ways to control the radiant heat that comes through your windows. Couple the ShyZip system with a motorized lift and you have an easy way to control heat, glare, and UV exposure, all at the touch of a finger. These same shades can be used to control the wind which plagues many decks making them unusable even in the summer months. We have installed trouble-free exterior shades over 10' wide and 8' tall.
